Nairobi Securities Exchange indices closed higher on Wednesday, with the NASI posting a strong gain. The NASI rose 8.34 points or 3.94% to close at 219.91. The NSE 20 Share Index advanced to 3,568.33 points.
Market breadth was positive, with 23 gainers against 20 losers among the 57 equities that traded. Total turnover reached KES 1.905 billion from 45.68 million shares exchanged in 9,063 deals.
ScanGroup led the gainers, climbing 6.44% to KES 2.15. Eveready East Africa gained 5.88% to KES 1.08, while Eaagads rose 5.47% to KES 32.80. On the downside, Olympia Capital Holdings fell 6.53% to KES 6.58. Nation Media Group declined 4.85% to KES 12.75, and Flame Tree Group Holdings dropped 4.02% to KES 1.91.
Safaricom was the most active counter by volume with 27.04 million shares traded, followed by NCBA Group (6.55 million shares) and Co-operative Bank (2.39 million shares).
The session saw solid participation across banking and select small-cap names, supporting the broad-based advance.
